keep your eye upon the doughnut!
The difference is droll;
The optimist sees the doughnut,
The pessimist, the hole.
this rhyme leads me back to my postnovitiate formation years, especially as i widen my understanding on the concept of evil. now, it's my turn to pay it forward to my student-charges. our discussion on evil highlights its very nature as the absence of good. more often, we notice evil as a seeming entity when in fact it does not exist. the doughnut analogy perfectly fits the illustration.
yet, after discussing all these, it led me to a very profound life-application:
nobody is born evil or bad.
this topic challenges us to see, to discover and to bring out the goodness in every person. it corrects us to see the beauty beyond the stain, the doughnut instead of the hole.
rising from our stumbled and twisted viewpoint of the terrible things around us, we rather find grand scheme of things in order, in harmony, in beauty.
Whatever be your goal.
Keep your eye upon the doughnut,
And not upon the hole."
